The ADC Winter Ball - Albuquerque's BEST and biggest dance event - is almost here! Once again it will be held at Albuquerque Convention Center in the combined ballroom. Wear your holiday best for this special occasion but make sure you can dance in your elegant attire!

The ADC Winter Ball – Albuquerque’s BEST and biggest dance event – is almost here! Once again it will be held at Albuquerque Convention Center in the combined ballroom, which includes the Cimarron, Dona Ana, Aztec, Brazos and Galisteo rooms on the lower east side. We’ll have the same huge wooden dance floor as in previous years (87’L x 42’W).

Wear your holiday best for this special occasion but make sure you can dance in your elegant attire! Bring a pair of comfy dance shoes as well as a camera for preserving the memories. And if you forget your camera, we will once again provide a photo booth complete with backdrop (details below)!

“CAN I GO SINGLE?”

We are asked this question every year and the answer is worth repeating: YES, you can go single! You do NOT need a partner to attend. At least half of the ADC Winter Ball attendees will attend without a partner. As at all ADC functions, attendees are encouraged to mingle and dance with others. Due to space, this will be a “limited ticket sales” event (220 max), so everyone will have room to dance comfortably. To help maintain a gender balance, we will again try to sell equal numbers (110 each) of male and female registrations. This will ensure enough leaders and followers so everyone can dance and have a great time. So, if you’re attending single — register early!

WINTER BALL LOGISTICS

6:00 pm–11:00 pm: Doors open at 6:00 pm and dancing begins. Please do not arrive before 6:00 pm as we will need time for set-up.

6:00 pm–7:00 pm: Reception
7:00-9:00 pm: Buffet dinner

The Buffet dinner includes a selection designed to accommodate various food preferences (see registration form for complete menu). Attendees will be called to the dinner buffet by table numbers selected at random. The last table selected will win a prize worthy of their patience! (Note: Cash bar/credit cards accepted/ATM near by at the Security Desk.)

Actual paper tickets for the Winter Ball will not be issued. Instead, names of registrants will be checked against a registration list upon arrival at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Seating arrangements will be “open” — first come/first served. When you check in, you will receive a RESERVED slip with your name on it. Place the slip on your place setting to reserve your seat while you are dancing and to let your later-arriving friends know where you are sitting. NOTE: When you are through eating, please place your nametag on your plate. This lets the waiter know you are finished and would like your plate removed.

Door Prizes: Great gifts will be given away during the evening. Your name will be automatically entered for the drawings when you check in.

REGISTRATION INFO

Prior to the Winter Ball, you will be notified either by phone or e-mail regarding receipt of your registration. If you don’t receive a confirmation by a week before the Ball, call 505-299-3737 to verify that your registration was received.

Winter Ball tickets are limited and always sell out. REGISTRATION IS BY MAIL ONLY. Mail the registration form (available below) today, along with your membership renewal to receive a $11 discount to the already-subsidized price. Note: The actual cost of the Winter Ball ticket is $55 per person. Fees: Invited guest pays $55. The subsidized cost for current members is $45. Special for all members renewing now to January 2013: just $34 per person (a savings of $11 per member!) The postmark deadline for the 2012 Winter Ball registration is Thursday, January 19, although the event will most likely be sold out before then. There is a limit of one guest registration per member. Registrations for additional guests, non-members, and those joining in January will become available starting Monday, January 9th (non-members may call to get on a waiting list now: 505-299-3737). Current members receive priority over non-members for extra tickets.

WAITING LIST / CANCELLATIONS

We will have a waiting list if the event sells out. In previous years, almost everyone on the waiting list was able to attend.

No refunds will be given after January 20th. IMPORTANT: If you buy a ticket and cannot attend, please contact the club by calling 505-299-3737 so that we can offer your registration to the next person on the waiting list – even if it’s a last minute cancellation! Once we provide the Convention Center catering staff with a final list of attendees (7-days in advance), the ADC is obligated to pay the full cost of all registrants, whether or not they actually attend.) If your registration is re-sold after the refund deadline, we will refund your money. The last several years we had 100% attendance, because those who were unable to attend were conscientious about notifying us.

PHOTOS

Have your picture taken at the Winter Ball! We will once again offer a “photo service” at our Winter Ball. Singles, couples and small groups can be accommodated. The photos will be placed on the club website for your review. High resolution, printable image files will be provided upon request. Contact Dennis Kramer through the ADC website. Cost for e-mailed files is free and for mailed CD’s is $4.00 (in advance). NOTE PROCEDURE FOR PHOTOS: So that our photographers (Dennis & his assistant Mae Lambert) can enjoy the evening, photo service will only be offered from 6:00pm to 6:30pm, and again from 9:00pm-9:30 pm. Dennis and Mae will also take “table pictures” by request.

Gary Kellogg has been Membership Chairman for the ADC almost since its inception and is currently the MC for most Club events.

He was born and raised in a small town (Cambridge Springs) of approximately 2000 people in NW Pennsylvania. The population of the town never changed because every time some girl got pregnant, some guy left town. He went to college at Penn State earning a PhD degree in Physics in 1976. Gary has been a research scientist at Sandia Labs for almost 35 years. He and his wife Susan have two sons, Brian and Justin.

Gary has been dancing since the early 1980s when Susan hauled him off kicking and screaming to take lessons at the (no longer existing) Coronado Club on Base. Susan and Gary were members of Mike Haley’s competition dance team (the Kuntry Kikkers) for over 10 years. They now teach C&W dance through UNM’s Continuing Ed program and at various other local venues.
